| Background Information | The European Foundation is a eurosceptic body, closely linked to the British Conservative party. Although not technically opposed to British membership of the European Union (EU), instead seeking its 'thoroughgoing reform', the Foundation has set its face against the integrationist path followed by the EU, as enshrined in the treaties of Maastricht, Nice and Amsterdam. The Foundation was established by eurosceptic Tory MP Bill Cash, and led on from the Great College Street Group, formed to intellectually support the Tory Maastricht rebels against the Major Government.
