| Background Information | Combat Stress, the Ex-Services Mental Welfare Society, seeks to help "those of all ranks from the Armed Forces and the Merchant Navy suffering from psychological disability as a result of their Service". To this end, the charity provides visiting welfare officers and treatment centres to aid former servicemen and women. Combat Stress was founded in the aftermath of the First World War, to provide help for the large number of former servicemen returning home with 'shellshock'.
