| Background Information | Gamblers Anonymous (GA) is a network of self-help groups for compulsive gamblers. The GA structure and programme has many similarities with Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), for example the use of a 12-step recovery programme. As with AA, GA came to the United Kingdom from the United States, with the first UK meeting being held in 1964. GA also contains Gam-Anon, a support group for the partners of compulsive gamblers.
