| Background Information | The Global Commons Institute (GCI) is a UK-based environmental organisation, under the leadership of Aubrey Meyer. Formed following the Second World Climate Conference, the GCI seeks to protect the global commons, or biosphere, with a specific focus on tackling climate change. With this context, it particularly promotes the contraction and convergence model, imposing deeper cuts on the developed world, with a view to reaching a point where any given country's share of global greenhouse gas emissions are in proportion to its population.
