| Background Information | Independent Labour Publications (ILP) describes itself as "an educational trust, publishing house and pressure group committed to democratic socialism and the success of a democratic socialist Labour party." It began life, and found considerable fame and influence, as the Independent Labour party, and was one of the founder members of the current British Labour party. A major part of the British political scene in the first half of the twentieth century, the ILP split with the Labour party in 1932, and successfully maintained a separate Parliamentary presence until after the Second World War.
