Background InformationThe Josephine Butler Society is a pressure groups working to alleviate the harm caused by prostitution. A founding member of the International Abolitionist Federation (IAF), the Society both lobbies government, and works with partner organisations in both the voluntary and statutory sectors. The name of the organisation honours one of the leading Victorian activists in this area, and founder in 1875 of the British and Continental Federation for the Abolition of Government Regulation of Prostitution, now the IAF.
