| Background Information | The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) is a right wing, free market think tank, promoting libertarianism and seeking to reduce to the role of government. The IEA was co-founded by Anthony Fisher, after having been influenced by F.A. Hayek, author of the anti-collectivist work The Road to Serfdom, and Oliver Smedley. The IEA can be seen as an early example of the New Right, which came to prominence after Margaret Thatcher's election to the Conservative party leadership in 1975.
