| Background Information | Stonewall is a gay rights group. It emerged out of the campaign against Section 28, the provision of the 1986 Local Government Act that prohibited the promotion of homosexuality in schools. During its lifetime, Stonewall has seen significant advances in gay rights, including the reduction of the gay age of consent to 16 in 2001, and the introduction of civil partnerships in 2005.
Stonewall is affiliated to the International Lesbian and Gay Association.
