The Stop the War coalition is opposed to the US-led War on Terror, triggered by the atrocities of September 11th 2001. Formed days after the attacks, Stop the War has played a leading role in opposing military intervention in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the continuing US-led presence in those countries. It was an organiser of the march in central London on February 15th 2003 against the impending Iraq war, which, with estimated attendance between 1 and 2 million, was believed to be the largest demonstration in British history.
