| Background Information | The English Collective of Prostitutes (ECP) and US PROStitutes Collective (US PROS) together form the International Prostitutes Collective (IPC), an organisation dedicated to campaigning on all aspects of "sex workers’ human, civil, legal and economic rights" (IPC). As set out in its constitution in 1997, the IPC seeks to decriminalise sex workers, repeal prostitution laws and legalised brothels/zones which ghettoise prostitution, protect sex workers from illegal behaviours, such as violence and rape, combat racism and discrimination within the sex industry, and secure childcare and other worker benefits for sex workers. In 1982, ECP established Legal Action for Women (LAW), a grassroots legal service for all women (source: http://www.prostitutescollective.net/; VAD, 2005, 156) |
