| Background Information | ABANTU for Development is an NGO focussed on African women, channelling its development work through gender-equality initiatives in the social, economic and political spheres. It seeks to empower both sexes to play a role in development and nation-building, highlighting gender-inequality as an obstacle in these processes. ABANTU targets its work on Eastern and Southern Africa. This NGO has had ECOSOC Special Consultative Status since 1999, and was registered with the United Nation as a British NGO, but the headquarters of the organisation seem to have moved a few years ago to Ghana.
