Background InformationScientists for Global Responsibility (SGR) is a professional membership body, describing its work as "research, education, and lobbying centred around the military, environmental and political aspects of science, design and technology", in pursuit of "ethical science, design and technology, based on the principles of openness, accountability, peace, social justice, and environmental sustainability." SGR was formed through the merger of Scientists Against Nuclear Arms (SANA), Electronics and Computing for Peace (ECP) and Psychologists for Peace (PfP), bodies which sought to broaden their primary interest in nuclear disarmament following the end of the cold war. In 2005, it also absorbed Architects and Engineers for Social Responsibility. This latter body had been formed in 1991, through the merger of Engineers for Social Responsibility (formerly Engineers for Nuclear Disarmament), and Architects for Peace. Source: www.sgr.org.uk
