| Background Information | The Tawney Society was the think-tank of the Social Democratic party, the political party formed out the 1981 break-away of the 'Gang of Four' from the British Labour party, and which ceased to exist following the 1988 merger with the Liberal party, which resulted in the Liberal Democrats. |
