| Background Information | Christian Concern for One World (CCOW) is a charity raising awareness of global issues within the Christian communities covered by the Anglican Diocese of Oxford (covering the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire). The topics addressed by CCOW include international debt and trade, the UN's Millennium Development Goals, HIV/AIDS, climate change and fair trade. The charity grew out of the General Synod's 1975 challenge that each member of the Church of England should give 1% of their take-home pay to Christian Aid and the World Development Movement. This in turn was inspired by the 1968 World Council of Churches Assembly at Uppsala, and led to the formation of a 1% appeal group within the Diocese of Oxford, from which developed the current body. Charity no. 1008146. Source: www.ccow.org.uk |
