| Background Information | Liberation was initially founded, under the leadership of sometime Labour MP Andrew Fenner (later Lord) Brockway, as the Movement for Colonial Freedom, to campaign for self-determination, the application of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, aid to the underdeveloped world, and an end to imperialist international relations. Strong links existed with the British Labour party, inside and outside Parliament. The current name was adopted in 1967, to greater reflect the concerns of the post-imperial world. Liberation was also involved in setting up movements such as War on Want, the Anti-Apartheid Movement, and the British Council for Peace in Vietnam. In 2004, the former Labour MP/MEP Stan Newens published a history of Liberation, A History of Struggle: Commemorating the 50th Anniversary
