The Co-operative Women's Guild (CWG) is the women's arm of the co-operative movement. Alongside providing a social forum, and a means of spreading co-operation amongst women, the CWG has been an active campaigning organisation. In the early twentieth century it mobilised for maternity rights and female suffrage, as well as launching the pacifist white Peace Poppy in 1933. Later, it played a role in the formation of the National Council for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons Tests. The CWG was founded by Alice Acland. Between 1921 and 1963 there also existed an International Women's Cooperative Guild (previously the International Guild of Cooperative Women), which emerged out of, and then eventually remerged with, the International Cooperative Alliance.
