| Background Information | Churches Together in Britain and Ireland (CTBI) is the umbrella body for the variety of Christian churches and denominations in the British Isles, coordinating efforts on issues ranging from Christian unity and interfaith dialogue, to international relations and racial equality. The current incarnation of this organisation came into being in 1999 following the Swanwick declaration, although it is the direct successor of Churches Together for Britain and Ireland and, prior to that, the British Council of Churches. The Council has a close working relationship with the umbrella bodies in each of the four nations of the British Isles, as listed below. |
