| Background Information | ICA:UK is a statutory member of the Institute of Cultural Affairs, an international network of independent and autonomous organisations, based in about 25 countries around the world. The Institute of Cultural Affairs began as a programme of the Ecumenical Institute in Chicago, USA in 1963, and developed into a separate entity in 1973. It has been in the UK since the early 1970s. ICA:UK was established in 2000 to bring together the three main strands of activity in the UK: providing training and facilitation services using the Technology of Participation methodology, supporting African ICAs in their development and growth, training and preparing volunteers for their experience overseas. The latter programme has now been suspended and a new programme started, focused on disadvantaged youth. Prior to the establishment of ICA:UK in 2000, ICA activities in the UK was governed by the ICA Development Trust and the ICA UK Network, which was an unincorporated Association. Charity no. 1090745.
