Background Information

The International Alliance of Women was an organisation working towards female equality, originally founded in Washington during the so-called 'first-wave' of feminism, centred upon suffrage rights. Broadening its remit through the twentieth century, the organisation adopted its current name in 1946, and turned its attention to issues such as family planning and international peace, alongside its central focus on full sexual equality.
