| Background Information | The Democratic Party was a short-lived political party, founded by Desmond Donnelly. Donnelly was a highly-independent Labour MP, whose rebellions with Woodrow Wyatt managed to temporarily derail Harold Wilson's plans to renationalise the steel industry in the mid-1960s. The Democratic Party was formed in the period between Donnelly's expulsion from the Labour Party, and his joining the Conservatives. |
