| Background Information | Alone in London is a charity working with young vulnerable people, providing a range of support and assistance. Services include advice, legal advocacy, training and employment, family mediation, young offenders resettlement, schools (awareness raising) work, and a signposting/information service. In 2005, the organisation became a division of EPIC Trust, itself owned by Circle Anglia Housing Association. The charity was established as GALS (Girls Alone in London Service) by Rosamund Blackler, with Lady Peyton as President. Blackler founded the organisation, offering advice and support to young homeless women, in reaction to the criticisms she held regarding the YWCA approach, for whom she had previously worked. Charity no. 280827, company no. 1450554. Sources: www.als.org.uk; Curtis & Sanderson Unsung Sixties 2004; www.charity-commission.gov.uk; contact with NGO, August 2007 |
