| Background Information | The Homosexual Law Reform Society was formed in the wake of the 1957 Wolfenden recommendations, that consensual gay sex should be decriminalised for adult men over 21 years of age. Established by AE Dyson and Rev. Hallidie Smith, the Society concentrated on discreet lobbying. Decriminalisation was achieved through the 1967 Sexual Offences Act, leading both to a reinvention of the Society as the Sexual Law Reform Society, and a new era of more vocal campaigns for gay rights.
