| Background Information | Rock Against Racism was a musical campaign against racism and fascism, formed to counter the rise of the far-right National Front (NF), and in reaction to apparent expressions of far-right opinions made by rock musicians David Bowie and Eric Clapton. Essentially a coalition of politicised bands and individual musicians, the body was formed by the Trotskyite Socialist Workers' Party (SWP). Along with the SWP, Rock Against Racism formed the Anti-Nazi League in 1977. Both bodies were wound down in 1981, after the decline of the NF as a political force. 2002 saw the launch of a similar, successor body, Love Music Hate Racism, this time in response to the activities of the British National Party (BNP).
