| Background Information | Stop the Section formed part of the opposition to the amendment to what became the 1988 Local Government Act, popularly known as Section 28. This forbade local authorities, and the schools they ran, from presenting in schoolrooms 'the acceptability of homosexuality as a pretended family relationship.' Stop the Section worked particularly with local authority workers. The opposition failed to prevent the amendment becoming law, a law that was finally repealed by the Blair government in 2003.
