| Background Information | In its own words, "Compass is the democratic left pressure group, whose goal is to debate and develop the ideas for a more equal and democratic world, then campaign and organise to help ensure they become reality." Launched with the publication of A Vision for the Democratic Left, and principally active amongst members and supporters of the British Labour party, Compass has positioned itself to the Left of the Blair/Brown leadership. Under the chairmanship of Neal Lawson, Compass publishes research and opinion pieces, holds an annual conference, and also maintains a small network of regional groups.
