Background InformationThe Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR) in Scotland is an ecumenical Christian peace movement, engaged in education and awareness-raising work regarding peace, and the causes of violence and war. Formed in response to the First World War, and in particular from the conviction of German Lutheran Friedrich Siegmund-Schultze and English Quaker Henry Hodgkin that Christians could not be at war with one another, FOR has engaged in a broad range of peace work, from supporting conscientious objectors in the First and Second World Wars, to opposing nuclear weapons and the war in Vietnam. FOR in Scotland is affiliated to the International Fellowship of Reconciliation, established in 1919. Charity no. SC012408. Sources: www.for.org.uk; www.oscr.org.uk
