| Background Information | The Student Christian Movement (SCM) describes itself as "a movement seeking to bring together students of all denominations to explore the Christian faith in an open-minded and non-judgemental environment." Originally the Students' Foreign Missionary Union (SFMU), this body formed and was absorbed by the Student Volunteer Missionary Union (later the British College Christian Union), supporting Christian overseas mission, as well as Christian student life more generally. Doctrinal and organisational disagreement later led to the breakaway of what is now the Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship (UCCF). Charity no. 241896.
