| Background Information | The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) is an environmental body, seeking to demonstrate practical solutions to issues such as climate change, pollution and environmental degradation, through the development and public demonstration of sustainable technologies. The Centre was established in a disused slate quarry by Gerard Morgan-Grenville, and opened two years later as a visitors' centre. The Centre for Alternative Technology Charity also exists (no. 265239), previously known as the Society for Environmental Improvement. CAT is also connected with a number of other organisations through the Schumacher Circle (see below). Company no. 1459589. Sources: www.cat.org.uk; www.charity-commission.gov.uk |
