| Background Information | Age Concern Scotland provides information and advice to older people, as well as campaigning nationally on their behalf. In addition, it is a federation of local charities delivering services to older people. The charity (no. SC 010100) emerged out of Age Concern England, becoming an independent organisation in 1995. However, it has been working in Scotland since the 1940s, initially as a branch of the national body (itself then part of the National Council of Social Service), and then gaining further autonomy in 1971. In September 2008, Age Concern England and Help the Aged have announced that they will be creating a new charity in April 2009. Source: www.ageconcernscotland.org.uk |
