Christian Peacemaker Teams (UK) is a multi-denominational human rights group, noted for what it describes as ""getting in the way" of violence and injustice through direct non-violent intervention, public witness and reporting to the larger world community to make a difference." The organisation works principally through placing teams in areas of conflict around the world (such as Colombia, Iraq, Palestine). Although still a developing presence in the UK, the organisation was thrust into the limelight as a result of CPT delegate Norman Kember's kidnapping in Iraq during 2005-6. Internationally, the movement is North American in origin, launched in the late 1980s in response to a call in 1984 by Ron Sider, at the Mennonite World Conference in Strasbourg, France. The organisation was founded by a combination of the Church of the Brethren, the Quakers and the Mennonite Church, but is now supported by a range of denominations and groupings.
