Founded by Heshmat Assadi, Eagle Eyes NGO (EENGO) started from humble beginnings as a free youth, entertainment and athletics club for the poor in Afghanistan where Mr. Assadi was a student. The organisation formalised into a UK NGO some years after Mr. Assadi moved to the UK in 2000 and now provides help and support to Afghan and other disadvantaged groups from the Middle East, Africa and the former Soviet Union.
Services include an information service, sports activities, translation and interpretation services, legal support, and community and arts events. EENGO also consult with the UN, government, other non-governmental and voluntary organisations to provide services to individuals in different countries, such as Canada, Kazakistan, Pakistan, Russia, Sweden, Tajikastan, Trukmestan, USA, and Uzbekistan. EENGO still has roots in Afghanstan and is currently supporting some 20 Afghani students studying medicine across different universities around the world, and it continues to organise sporting tournaments and campaign on local issues (source: EENGO website; Department for Communities and Local Government, The Afghan Muslim Community in England, 2009, pp59)
