| Background Information | The Edinburgh Centre for Tropical Forests (ECTF) was an association of five UK organisations (the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH), the Forestry Commission (FC), LTS International Ltd, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE), and the University of Edinburgh (UoE)). The ECTF took advantage of its member organisations’ complementary missions, close proximity and proven history of collaboration to share experience and work together on projects. Since its establishment in 1990, ECTF had become recognised in the UK and internationally as a leading research, training and consultancy organisation, and worked with several non-member organisations and consultants. ECTF's activities have progressively moved from the original focus on tropical forestry to include other areas of work such as rural development, biodiversity, global and environmental studies. Projects were based in Latin America, Africa and Southeast Asia, and included the Darwin Initiative Monitoring and Evaluation project on biodiversity (2009) (source: UK Clearing House Mechanism for Biodiversity; Forestry Guide; DANGO questionnaire)
