| Background Information | Establised in the wake of the atrocities suffered by the Sikhs in North West India in 1984, SHRG is now an international human rights organisation rooted in the principles of the Sikh faith. It aims for "the protection and promotion of human rights, the peaceful resolution of conflicts and reform of the agencies of the United Nations to reflect the needs of the people rather than the states" and does so through activism, academic reports, and conferences. Neither its work nor membership is limited to those belonging to the Sikh religion (source: http://www.shrg.net/)
