| Background Information | Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) UK is the UK branch of a worldwide network of largely autonomous self-help groups, through which recovered alcoholics support others to overcome their addiction. AA began in 1935 in Ohio, USA, with Dr Bob S. and Bill W. In 1939 a textbook, Alcoholics Anonymous, was published, containing the famous 12-steps recovery programme used by AA groups. AA experienced rapid growth across North America, with practice being codified by Bill W. in the 1940s into The 12 Traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous. Source: www.alcoholics-anonymous.org |
