Background InformationInternational Service, the working name of the United Nations Association International Service, is an international development body primarily concerned with the placement of skilled volunteers in areas of need. It also seeks to capacity-build in partnership with local organisations, and to raise awareness of the need for international development. Originally established by the United Nations Association in response to the Dutch floods of 1953, the current working name was adopted when the organisation became an independent body in 1998.
