| Background Information | UNICEF UK, the working name of the United Kingdom Committee for UNICEF, is a major international children's charity, supporting the worldwide work of UNICEF, the United Nations' Children's Fund. UNICEF was founded in 1946 (as the United Nations' Children's Emergency Fund), as a successor organisation to the UN's Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA), relieving the humanitarian crisis in post-war Europe. UNICEF was made a permanent organisation in 1953, with a focus on the developing world. Alongside relief and development work, particular focuses now include the implementation of children's rights, and dealing with the effect on children of HIV/AIDS. Charity no. 1072612, company no. 03663181. Source: www.unicef.org.uk |
