| Background Information | Action for Sick Children, the working name of the National Association for the Welfare of Children in Hospital (NAWCH), is a children's healthcare charity, focussed on ensuring the highest standards of care for sick children, with a particular emphasis on non-medical needs. Launched as Mother Care for Children in Hospital, the charity was inspired by the Penn Report on the welfare of children in hospital, and by James Robertson's 1953 documentaries A Two Year Old Goes to Hospital and Mother Goes to Hospital. Today, the charity campaigns and works nationally, as well as maintaining a network of local groups. The current working name was adopted in 1991, in order to reflect the growing importance of community care. Charity no. 296295, company no. 2029339. Source: www.actionforsickchildren.org |
