| Background Information | The Burma Campaign UK (BCUK) seeks the restoration of democracy and human rights in Burma, through a combination of political lobbying and campaigning, the encouragement of both consumer boycotts and trade and investment embargos, and the raising of public awareness regarding the conditions prevalent in that country. The campaign raises awareness about the repression faced by Aung San Suu Kyi and her National League for Democracy (NLD), overwhelming victors in the 1990 elections, the results of which have not been recognised by Burma's
military regime, and campaigns for the release of all political prisoners. The campaign works to promote freedom and human rights for all of Burma's ethnic groups and works to build the capacity of Burmese civil society, human rights and development organisations.
