| Background Information | In February 1967, The Guardian newspaper published an article written by a mother whose son was addicted to heroin. The author was a woman called Mollie Craven, and she appealed for other parents like herself to form an association. Subsequently, a charity was formed, which rebranded as Addaction in the late 1990's. Addaction is now the largest specialist drug and alcohol treatment charity in the UK, supporting over 26,000 service users to address their drug and alcohol misuse. Addaction has over 70 services in England and Scotland for individuals and their families, including nine dedicated services supporting young people and their families to manage the effects of drug and alcohol misuse.
