| Background Information | The BUAV (British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection) is a non-violent campaigning organisation, established by Frances Power Cobbe, opposed to the use of animals in experiments both nationally and internationally.
In the aftermath of World War I, the BUAV narrowly failed in its campaign to exclude dogs from vivisection, with the Dogs (Protection) Bill. The BUAV split from the National Anti-Vivisection Society over the latter's willingness to compromise on the total abolition of vivisection. The BUAV was a founder member of the European Coalition to End Animal Experiments (ECEAE), and the International Council for Animal Protection on OECD Programmes (ICAPO).
