| Background Information | Book Aid International is a charity providing books to the developing world.
It was founded by Hermione, Countess of Ranfurly, wife of the Governor General of the Bahamas. Aware of the shortage of books amongst Bahamian children, she began to distribute books donated from sources in the UK. Lady Ranfurly was then persuaded by the UK Colonial Secretary, Alan Lennox-Boyd, to extend the operation to the wider developing world. In 2004, Book Aid International distributed over 675,000 books.
The current name was adopted in 1994.
