RepositoryMuslim Council of Britain
DescriptionThe MCB retains its own papers at its offices. These consist of: annual reports; financial records; minutes of meetings; correspondence; promotional material; press releases and cuttings; subject files; electronic material. The MCB is currently in the process of archiving, beginning with the period 1993-2001. There are currently no plans to archive/make accessible material beyond this date. Three particular areas of importance have been identified by the organisation in its pre-Dec 2001 papers: (1) material relating to the foundation of the organisation; (2) the lobbying and consultation process that led to the 2001 Census including questions on religious affiliation for the first time; (3) material relating to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and their immediate aftermath. This final section includes the c.5,000 emails received by the MCB in the days following the attacks. Other areas of interest in the papers include relations with Britain's other faith communities. A small amount of material in the collection is likely to be in Urdu or Arabic. The UK Web Archiving Consortium archived the Muslim Council of Britain's website on a regular basis July to September 2005, the site is no longer being archived. Researchers can access the archive here.
Access RightsClosed. The MCB's executive body has agreed to begin the cataloguing process for material up to and including December 2001. Decisions regarding access will be taken once this process is complete.
CoverageThe papers currently being processed cover the period 1993 (prior to the MCB's foundation) to December 2001. Further papers exist up to the present, but these are not currently being considered for archiving/access.
