| Background Information | The Campaign for Freedom of Information works to improve public access to information, and for the relaxation of official secrets legislation.
Following the Freedom of Information Act 2000, the Campaign monitors the Act's implementation, and continues to argue for improved public access. The Campaign also trains users and public authorities in the operation of the Act.
The context of the Campaign's emergence was the Ponting Affair, the unsuccessful prosecution of a civil servant by the British Government, following leaked documents relating to the sinking of the Argentine ship the General Belgrano during the Falklands conflict.
