| Background Information | Centrepoint is a charity working with homeless and socially excluded 16-25 year olds. It provides direct services, mainly in London, undertakes research and lobbying, as well as building local partnerships to address youth homelessness.
Centrepoint began when curate Ken Leech, originally together with the Simon Community, opened the basement of St Anne's Church, Soho, for the benefit of young homeless people. The organisation's name was an ironic reference to the then new, prominent office block nearby, which developers had left empty for financial reasons.
Together with the Peabody Trust, Centrepoint established the independent charity Safe in the City, with the aim of preventing youth homelessness.
