DescriptionThe records of the Samaritans consists of statutory retentions, plus items which regarded as charting the progress of the organisation. They "are retained at the General Office. In view of the confidential nature of the work, committee minutes and correspondence are not available for research. However, the published Annual Reports and accounts, newsletters, conference and special reports, and subject files (which consist of press-cuttings, published articles and historical publicity material, and training aids) may be released with permission of the Samaritans" (source: C. Cook, The Routledge Guide to British Political Archives, 2006; Cook & Waller, Sources in Contemporary British History, vol 1, 1994). The UK Web Archiving Consortium archived the Samaritans website July to October 2005. The website is no longer being archived. Researchers can access the archive here.
