| Background Information | Citizens Advice Scotland (CAS) is a charity (no. SC 016637 ) that acts as the umbrella body of Citizens Advice Bureaux in Scotland. Together, these bodies form the Scottish Citizens Advice service. Citizens Advice Bureaux are independent local charities, mainly run by volunteers. The bureaux help people to resolve their problems (for example legal or financial) through the provision of free and independent advice. CAS, in the form of the Scottish Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux (SACAB), emerged out of Citizens Advice, which had been established in 1939. SACAB became an independent body in 1980, and the current name was adopted in 1988. Source: www.cas.org.uk |
