| Background Information | The British National Temperance League (BNTL) is a charity encouraging abstinence from alcohol and all other addictive substances, through public education and the promotion of healthy living. The Freeway initiative takes the BNTL's message to young people.
The BNTL was formed out of the 1952 amalgamation of the British Temperance League and the National Temperance League, with older roots in the nineteenth century British Association for the Promotion of Temperance, and Joseph Liversey's Preston Temperance Society.
