| Background Information | The Countryside Alliance campaigns for the rights and interests of the rural community, and for the protection of traditional country sports and pursuits. In its early years, the Alliance was particularly associated with the campaign against proposals to ban hunting with hounds, organising major London rallies in 1997 and 1998. The proposals became law in 2004. The Alliance was formed during 1997-1998, through the merger of the British Field Sports Society (est. 1930), the Countryside Business Group and the Countryside Movement (est. 1996).
