| Background Information | The Campaign Against Racist Laws was established by the Indian Workers Association (IWA) to campaign against the trend of ever-tighter immigration control into the United Kingdom, which formed the official response to growing levels of Black and Asian immigration in the 1950s and 1960s. The Campaign particularly referred to the 1971 Immigration Act and, later, the 1981 Nationality Act. Source: Barberis et al Encyclopedia of British and Irish Political Organizations 2000 p112 |
