| Background Information | Devolve is a campaign group in favour of the radical reform of the political structure of England. Seeking an extensive devolution of power to the local level, Devolve draws much inspiration from England's cultural and political past, particularly the Anglo-Saxon period (with the group's original name, the Movement for Middle England, being a reference to the ancient kingdom of Mercia, in contrast to the usual socio-political connotations of the phrase). Economic and political power, it argues, should be wielded at the local level, with full representation being accorded to the country's various cultural traditions.
